Sugar Factory Provides Sweet Sensations at Paris

The official opening of the new Sugar Factory American Brasserie at Paris Las Vegas happens Mar. 4, but the Sugar Factory retail store is already on its way to being the sweetest new hotspot on the Vegas Strip.

Sugar Factory Paris Vegas

It's a whole new look for the west wing at Paris Vegas.

The brand-spanking-new (hey, it’s at the Paris, so emphasis on “spanking”) storefront cozies right up to Las Vegas Boulevard. The place was packed with candy-seeking shoppers when we stopped by.

Sugar Factory

This blog likes it some new.

A surprise design element at the Sugar Factory includes a convenient walk-up window that faces the driveway into the Paris (see below). The walk-up window serves up a variety of beverages, sandwiches and other goodies.

Sugar Factory

A walk-up window makes it easy to get your sugar fix.

But the main Sugar Factory “showroom” really grabs the spotlight.

The interior is highlighted with vivid colors and imaginative design elements conjuring up visions of Willy Wonka. But without the comb-over.

Sugar Factory

In the words of Willy Wonka, "If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it."

During our visit, the adjoining Sugar Factory American Brasserie restaurant was buzzing, with staff doing a mock dinner service to ensure everything goes according to plan when the establishment opens to the public on Mar. 4. (Rumor has it they’re already open, but it’s probably one of those “soft” opening things.)

Insider goodie: We spoke to one of the Sugar Factory American Brasserie managers and were told there will be a mind-boggling 200 items on the menu. We thought Serendipity 3 at Caesars Palace had a lot with 100.

Sugar Factory Paris Vegas

Candy dots. Candy buttons. Whatever you call them, we love 'em.

The Sugar Factory store at Paris Las Vegas is the chain’s largest (there are other locations at Planet Hollywood and the Mirage, find out more) at 6,000-square-feet.

All that space means ample room for confections, apparel, gift baskets and more.

Sugar Factory Paris Vegas

Not everything at Sugar Factory is edible. We won't hold it against them.

The Sugar Factory American Brasserie grand opening on Mar. 4 will boast celebrities galore, including Kim Kardashian, Holly Madison (star of Peepshow at Planet Hollywood and “Holly’s World” on E!), Mel B and David Arquette, among others.

Sugar Factory Paris Vegas

After seeing these, we left a distinct faceprint on the display case. Sorry, Sugar Factory display case-cleaning persons.

Follow Sugar Factory on Twitter, and get all the latest news when you “Like” the Paris Vegas Facebook page, or catch them on Twitter.

Sugar Factory Paris Vegas

Roam around a bit for some surprises, like this charming, secluded room, away from the main Sugar Factory store.

Tooth-decay, schmooth-decay, we say! This is Vegas, so it’s time to go overboard for a Sin City-inspired sugar rush.

You won’t believe the variety of candy, from tried-and-true favorites to treats you’ve never heard of. One of our favorites had to be a giant dispenser calling itself Pucker Powder. It’s like “Pixie Stix Gone Wild.”

Pucker Powder

The colorful powders range from sweet to sour. Like calisthenics for your taste buds.

You get your Pucker Powder receptacle thingy, then dispense the power, creating a colorful stratification of flavors. The sound you hear is this blog’s eyes rolling back into its head.

Pucker Powder

This may just be the greatest invention in the history of Mankind.

Our sweet tooth is currently on cloud nine, personificationwise (probably not a real word).

We can’t wait to get back to the Sugar Factory! The discovery below didn’t hurt, either.

Sugar Factory Paris Vegas

We think this bar, behind Sugar Factory, is new, too. It sits inside the Paris casino, and has a great vibe.

Revel in the decadence with our exclusive photo gallery.

Big Elvis Celebrates Birthday With Bill’s Blow-Out

One of the most beloved Elvis tribute artists on the Strip, Pete “Big Elvis” Vallee will celebrate his birthday on Feb. 28 at Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon.

Big Elvis

Pete "Big Elvis" Vallee works the crowd at Bill's.

The Big Elvis show is consistently rated as one of the best free shows in Vegas, and not just by this Las Vegas blog. See more free Vegas shows.

Pete Vallee’s friends and associates have a virtually day-long celebration in store for his 46th birthday. He’ll be doing his usual free shows at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., along with his musical cohort, featured singer Chuck Rawlings.

Throughout the performances, the ongoing party will feature special contests and prizes for fans, as well as cake and special guest performers.

Vallee’s charming wife Amanda will be in attendance, of course. We know she’s charming because we were at Big Elvis’ wedding. See our coverage.

Big Elvis

Amanda and Big Elvis at their wedding, takin' care of business.

We hear Big Elvis fans from across the country will be flying in for his birthday blast.

Inside scoop on the cake: It’ll be a chocolate bavarian cream cake wheeled in by a surprise guest. Naturally, there will be enough to share with audience members. (The cake experience is expected to transpire between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m.)

But don’t expect Big Elvis to over-indulge. He currently works with a nutritionist and fitness trainer as part of an ongoing weight loss program. Read more about Vallee’s amazing 500-pound weight loss journey.

Big Elvis

Bonus Elvis fact: Elvis Presley's favorite color was blue.

What’s coming up for Big Elvis?

We hear he’s working on several new projects, including recording some original music in the studio. We were intrigued to learn Vallee is working on a duet with his late mother, Delores Vallee, performed with an orchestra, along the lines of the successful duet by Natalie Cole and her father, Nat King Cole.

Join in the Big Elvis birthday celebration at Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon on Feb. 28.

The Most Amazing, Colossal Las Vegas Movie Ever

What’s your favorite movie set in Las Vegas? Maybe “Ocean’s 11″ or “Casino”? “Con Air”? “Showgirls”? (Kidding.)

By some estimates, there have been more than 500 movies shot in and around Las Vegas, but we have a new favorite. It’s “The Amazing Colossal Man”!

Amazing Colossal Man

Why so angry? Need to change your diaper?

This black-and-white, 1957 sci-fi flick has it all. Romance. Action. Riveting dialogue. And, of course, a dude who freakishly grows to be 60 feet tall because of an atomic accident.

The special effects are just awesome, and things get truly spectacular when the 60-foot guy goes on a rampage in Las Vegas.

He works his over-sized magic (specifically: “crushing,” “throwing”) on iconic Vegas hotels and landmarks like the Silver Slipper, the Sands, Riviera and something called “Last Frontier Village.” In one segment, the unjolly giant even takes down the unofficial mascot of Sin City, Vegas Vic.

Feast your eyes on the stunning climax to the cinematic accomplishment that is “The Amazing Colossal Man.”

Poor, misunderstood, 60-foot-tall, disoriented bald guy.

Sadly, this movie is not available on DVD, but it can be had on VHS pretty readily.

Insider tip: When you’re in Las Vegas, please try not to stand near an atomic blast. It can be a bummer.

Ellen Treats Kellie Pickler to Chippendales-a-Palooza

Three beefy performers from the famed Chippendales male revue made a surprise appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Feb. 23.

Jaymes Vaughan, Lind Walter and Billy Jeffrey were on-hand as a special treat for country singer, and beloved “American Idol” alum, Kellie Pickler.

Kellie Pickler

Changing lives, one pec at a time.

Thanks to Michael Rozman at Warner Bros. for the photo.

Ellen felt Pickler deserved to have a bachelorette party since she didn’t have one prior to her recent marriage to songwriter Kyle Jacobs.

See some of the Chippendales-inspired revelry thanks to the miracle that is the Interwebs. Watch the video.

Catch the Chippendales live and in the flesh, emphasis on the flesh part, at Rio Las Vegas. Learn more.

And please note how mature we’re being by not making even a single “pickler” joke in this blog post.

Total Rewards Launches Winning New App

The world’s most popular casino loyalty program, Total Rewards, recently unveiled its new app, the MyTR app. The new app works with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

We took the new MyTR app for a test drive, of course. First, the app is free, and this blog loves it some free. Get it here.

After a snappy roulette-related animation while the app is loading, the app gives you three immediate choices: You can sign in (for existing Total Rewards members), use a “Contact Us” button (leading to a Casino Directory and FAQs), or check out some Entertainment and Packages offerings.

The main navigation for the app (along the bottom of the screen, see below) has these sections: Home, Rewards, Find a Casino, Search and Booking.

“Home” is a relatively safe, happy place featuring either a couple making out or a zombie gnawing on a woman’s cheek. We’re kind of partial to the zombie scenario.

MyTR app

Hey, a zombie might enjoy a fine wine from time to time.

“Rewards” is the Total Rewards section of the app. The app’s useful to non-Total Rewards members, of course, but it really shines if you sign in using your Total Rewards number and password.

If you’re signed in, there’s a whole new world of goodness in store. (Thanks, MyTR app, for retaining our Total Rewards number so we won’t have to type it in again.) You can check your Rewards Credit Balance, account status, Current Tier and Tier Score. In the Total Rewards section, you can also check your existing reservations, look at special offers and notifications (including exclusive room rates) and manage your notifications.

“Find Casino” is what it sounds like. You can locate a Total Rewards casino anywhere across the country. There are about 40. We would share the exact number of casinos, but we are a Las Vegas blog, not a Total Rewards casino adder-upper.

MyTR app

When making your way to a Total Rewards casino, please avoid running into one of these giant push-pins.

“Search” provides a way to “Find Hotels/Casinos Near Me” (using your device’s GPS thingy) or to search “All Destinations,” including Total Rewards hotels in regions like Atlantic City, New Orleans, Reno and Lake Tahoe, Tunica and others. See the magnificent screen capture below.

MyTR app

We could totally be a screen capturer for a living.

Within “Search,” there is a cavalcade (yes, cavalcade) of information at your fingertips. Find your favorite hotel-casino, and you can choose items like “Gaming,” “Hotel Reviews,” “Events and Entertainment” and “Map and Directions.” “Gaming” (a fancy name for “Gambling”) has information about things like a casino’s slots and table games, sports book and poker room. “Events and Entertainment” gives an overview of the shows at a given resort. “Map and Directions” has to do with directions to the hotel (as opposed to a map of venues within a given hotel-casino, which would be on our wish list for the next version).

“Booking” makes room reservations easy. You select a destination, then use the handy interface to choose a hotel and date ranges to browse room rates. You also have the option to check existing reservations.

MyTR app

Seriously, screen capturing pays a lot, right?

So, those are some of the highlights of the new MyTR app.

Overall, it’s a convenient, intuitive way to stay connected to Total Rewards and your favorite hotels, in Vegas and elsewhere. And did we mention how free it is?

Download it, give it a go and let us know what you think in our Comments section.

Human Nature Gets Star Treatment in Las Vegas Mag

Human Nature, the crooning quartet that headlines at Imperial Palace, was highlighted in the Feb. 13 issue of Las Vegas Magazine.

The singers snagged the cover of the popular magazine, and the issue included amazing photos of the guys doing their Vegas thing.

Human Nature

Too school for cool, whatever that might actually mean.

Click here for a larger version.

It appears the guys had their cover shoot in front of the Plaza hotel downtown. The iconic hotel at one end of the Fremont Street Experience seems to gel with the group’s classic Vegas vibe.

This Las Vegas blog’s favorite shot in the issue? The one of Human Nature playing craps, of course.

Human Nature

The happiest place on Earth. The craps table!

Click here for a larger version.

Of course, we can’t let the guys completely off the hook on this one. A drink sitting in the chip rail? Or being held over the table? A Vegas dealer would be giving the guys a smack down for those infractions.

Players tend to get enthusiastic when playing craps, and spilled drinks on the felt makes for a huge headache, so precariously placed (or held) drinks are a big no-no in casinos.

Still, that shot’s a home run!

The guys get a full spread in the issue, and it talks about their Motown influences, beginnings in Australia and high-energy show at the Imperial Palace.

human_nature

Useless casino tidbit: Gaming chips are always stacked with the highest denominations on the bottom.

To see a larger version, click here.

For the record, the members of Human Nature are Toby Allen, Phil Burton, Andrew Tierney and Michael Tierney.

Read the article about Human Nature in Las Vegas Magazine, and see the guys live at Imperial Palace.

Las Vegas Cutie’s Given the Hook at Flamingo

In honor of National Margarita Day (Feb. 22), we thought we’d take a behind-the-scenes glimpse inside the restaurant considered the center of the margarita universe, Margaritaville at Flamingo Las Vegas.

margarita

Happy National Margarita Day! Yes, we took this photo. We do this for a living, you know.

Night after night, Vegas visitors are treated to an enduring, and endearing, Vegas experience at Margaritaville. A bikini-clad woman (nicknamed the “Las Vegas Cutie,” inspired by the “Mexican Cutie” in the famed Jimmy Buffett song) slides down the side of an erupting volcano and lands in a mammoth margarita blender.

The woman is then fished out of the blender with a giant metal hook. Ah, Vegas. Here’s some exclusive video of this timeless Margaritaville tradition.

While the woman in the bikini gets a lot of the limelight, we were actually curious about the folks who work the metal hook who rescue her from her blender four times a night, seven days a week.

Come to find out, there aren’t sophisticated hydraulics involved in the production. The hook is maneuvered with good, old-fashioned brawn.

The hook-handlers at Margaritaville actually do double duty. Most of the time, these costumed folks walk on stilts in the dining room, bantering with guests and making elaborate balloon figures. When the volcano show starts at the top of each hour (beginning at 6:00 p.m.), the stilt-walking team takes over hook duty, working in pairs.

The lead hook-hauler is “The Captain.” The Captain, who customers lovingly call Captain Morgan, is named Vitaliy (pictured, below left), originally from the Ukraine. He’s a five-year veteran of Margaritaville.

He and another hooker work large ropes, one moving the hook front to back, the other moving it side to side.

Vitaliy (back and forth) and Shawn (up and down) work the hook at Margaritaville.

While the volcano show is a blast for customers, it’s actually serious business for Vitaliy and his crew. There’s a freshly-dunked woman dangling from a rope, and there’s no net (although the Las Vegas Cutie does use a safety strap attached to the hook).

“It’s an aerial act. There’s quite a bit of danger to this,” says Vitaliy. “Especially after she’s in the water. It’s very slippery and can be quite dangerous. We’re a team, though. We watch out for each other.”

Though the “Captain” often appears soused, Vitaliy never actually drinks on duty. There are lives at stake!

Bonus Captain fact: In five years, Vitaliy has only fallen off his stilts exactly once. “Once is enough,” he laughs.

There are actually two Las Vegas Cuties, Fulvia Sanchez in the video above, and Adrienne Kramer, doing something we assume is fairly painful in the photo below.

Margaritaville

Adrienne is the less clad one. Note: The Captain is always in character.

Adrienne is a former dance major at UNLV, born and raised in Las Vegas. She’s been performing at Margaritaville for seven years. So, if she does four shows a night, five times a week, and she’s done it for seven years, she’s been dunked more than 7,000 times! That’s a lot of moisturizer and conditioner.

Asked about the dangers of her job, Adrienne said, “I have fallen off the hook, and the strap saved my life! We’ve added tape to the hook, and it makes a big difference.”

We had to pry. Yes, she sometimes gets tips, and once got a $100 tip from a high roller.

Adrienne says, “Jimmy Buffett fans are so sweet and loyal, and always very nice to me. Parrotheads are like Deadheads, except they have really good jobs like doctors and lawyers.”

Something else we had to ask: Is the water in the blender heated? Yes, but even when the heater is broken, the show must go on.

So, now you know some of the secrets behind one of the most-seen free shows in Las Vegas. It takes a lot of teamwork to ensure the show goes off without a hitch.

Margaritaville

Catherine and Tatiana join in the fun.

Vitaliy seemed genuinely surprised to be asked about his somewhat peculiar job. Vitaliy observed, “Everybody looks at the girl, nobody looks at us.” Well, the Pulse of Vegas Blog has put an end to that, Capt’n.

Bottoms up, and see you at Margaritaville!

Squeeze the Most Out of Your All-Stage Pass

Caesars Entertainment’s All-Stage Pass is a novel concept. It’s like an all-you-can-eat buffet, but with Vegas shows.

Purchase the pass, and you get all the shows you can consume (there are 18 to choose from) in a 48-hour period, for one entirely reasonable price (just $99 for members of Total Rewards, the Caesars Entertainment player loyalty program, and $119 for non-members).

In a recent edition of What’s On magazine, Assistant Editor Natalie Symes took on the somewhat daunting task of charting out some options available to those interested in getting the most from their All-Stage Pass.

All-Stage Pass

So many Vegas shows, you'll be tempted to mate with a housefly just so you can have more eyes. Or something.

Click here to download a larger version for the full All-Stage Pass flowchart experience.

Some of the town’s most popular shows are in the mix, including Mac King at Harrah’s, Human Nature and Matsuri at Imperial Palace, Matt Goss at Caesars Palace, Dirk Arthur at O’Sheas, Anthony Cools at Paris, Jubilee! at Bally’s, Chippendales at Rio and many more.

The All-Stage Pass can be purchased at the Show Tickets Direct booth in front of Bally’s, as well as the box offices at Rio Vegas and Planet Hollywood.

Find out more about the All-Stage Pass, and share your show-seeking strategies in the Comments section. And thanks to “What’s On” magazine for letting us pilfer their great content, making it appear as though this blog does not live by society’s rules.

Sometimes, We Just Need Our Viva Fix

Admit it. Sometimes, you just have to watch it again.

Safety tip: If Las Vegas does, at some point, actually set your “soul on fire,” try pouring baking soda on it.

Gallery Nightclub’s Opening Just Got More Kardashian

The grand opening of the new Gallery Nightclub at Sin City’s Planet Hollywood resort is set for Apr. 15, and guess who’s coming to the party!

Socialite and reality TV star Kourtney Kardashian will oversee the festivities to mark the new nightclub’s much-anticipated opening, and she’ll also be celebrating her birthday.

Kourtney Kardashian

"Everybody's frame-ous when you up in Vegas." (TM)

Kardashian’s actual birthday is Apr. 18, but when you’re rich and famous, can a birthday celebration really be yoked to just one day? The oft-maligned Apr. 15 is about to get the Kardashian treatment.

Kourtney Kardashian’s reality TV stints have included, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” and “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami.”

On a related note, Kourtney’s sister Kim Kardashian will be on-hand for the launch of the new Sugar Factory at Paris Las Vegas on Mar. 4. Read more.
Nothing says fun like a Kardashian. Which we’re 32% sure rhymes. Don’t try this at home, folks.

New Vegas-Themed Airline, LV Air, Takes Off Soon

There’s something exciting in the air. Well, there soon could be, anyway.

A new Vegas-themed charter air carrier, LV Air, expects to take flight in Aug. 2011, carrying passengers between New York City and Sin City.

Read more about LV Air on the official site.

LV Air

Like a magic carpet to Vegas, but with cocktails.

LV Air expects to make four non-stop flights from John F. Kennedy International to McCarran International in Vegas. The new airline says passengers will get “the Las Vegas experience directly upon boarding.”

The airline’s Web site says LV Air will “focus on casino players, luxury travelers and experience-seeking vacationers, whatever those might actually be.” (We added that last part.)

Other things we’re liking about LV Air? Fully-reclining flatbed seats (pictured below). Not so much for the trip to Vegas, probably, but especially appealing on the way home!

And who can resist being intrigued by this goodie: Recorded holographic images of Vegas celebrities will give on-board safety briefings. Three words come to mind: Holographic Holly Madison!

Other highlights: In-flight texting and video, iPad personal movie viewers, a 24-hour concierge service, complimentary transportation, “direct-to-room” baggage service and the airline’s “No Hangover” policy which guarantees “you get what you pay for or you pay nothing.”

LV Air

Plush. Red. Recline-y. Oh, mommy.

Another item from the official LV Air site: “LV Air will incorporate advertisers, sponsorships, casino programs and wholesale programs into one holistic effort of providing the best service and the highest penetration of customers into the Las Vegas strip.” We have no idea what most of that means, but look at how mature we’re being by not making any reference whatsoever to the use of the word “penetration.”

Here’s more chatter about LV Air at VegasChatter, the Las Vegas Sun and from KTNV.

The KTNV story is interesting because it mentions the airline will partner with “nine select hotel-casino properties in Las Vegas,” and will offer “consolidated buffet pricing” and “consolidated show pricing.” Hmm. If we didn’t know better (we don’t), we’d say that sounds awfully familiar. This blog loves it some consolidated buffet pricing and consolidated show pricing.

We’re excited to learn more about LV Air. For one thing, the fact the airline will serve only Vegas is beyond cool. Because it’s all about, Vegas, baby.

Today’s Hook-Up: Your Vegas Box Awaits

Now, why didn’t we think of this?

You know how you come to Vegas, and you end up buying all kinds of personal stuff when you arrive? Things like suntan lotion and shaving cream and your special brand of shampoo or conditioner and all that? And then you either have to lug it all back home, or you have to chuck it because of airline regulations or whatever and realize you’ve wasted an overhead bin’s worth of hard-earned cash?

Well, here’s a novel idea. “The Vegas Box” is a new service that provides a box (more of a sturdy plastic bin) for your goodies, then when your Vegas adventure is over, picks up your locked box and stores it in a secure location, then delivers your items to your Las Vegas hotel upon your return.

Vegas Box

Bonus points if you knew those lights in the background adorn the Flamingo Las Vegas.

Saves money. Convenient. Confidential. We’re not seeing a lot of downside here. How many half-consumed bottles of, say, Captain Morgan have been tossed (gasp!) because one’s Vegas visit has ended? The Vegas Box appears to be a solution. Get more details.

A lock with a seven digit-code is provided with your box, too, so you’re the only one who gets in. (Nothing illegal can be stored, of course.)

The Vegas Box works on a yearly pricing plan, and we talked the Vegas Box folks into an exclusive offer just for Pulse of Vegas Blog readers. The usual one-year membership price is $159 (which includes three pick-up/deliveries). If you order online, use the magical code POVBLOG and get a year of the service for just $99.

We just handed you $60. You owe us a cocktail.

Vegas Box

Divider thingies included. And, no, that is not this blog's purse.

If nothing else, The Vegas Box seems a great way to avoid excessive lugging of bags. This blog hates lugging.

And let’s just say it, there are some things one purchases and uses in Vegas that might not be all that useful back home. Leave your stripper stilettos or Elvis costume or gigantic Mardi Gras beads right here in Sin City until you’re back again. Oh, you’ll be back again.

Vegas beads

You know the beads we mean.

What do you think? Good idea? Sound like something you’d use? Post your thoughts in the Comments section, and make sure to check out the FAQs on the Vegas Box site.

Miss USA Pageant Returns to Planet Hollywood

There are few words that go as happily together as “Miss USA Pageant,” and we’re borderline exultant to announce the famed pageant will return to Planet Hollywood on the Las Vegas Strip this summer.

We can wait while you look up “exultant.” Because this blog certainly had to.

Miss USA Caesars Palace

Last year's Miss USA contestants hang out poolside at Caesars Palace. The Caesars "Routinely Spectacular" tagline wasn't just made up by some ad agency, you know.

The Miss USA Pageant celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, and it’s the fourth year the Miss USA event has been held at the star-studded Planet Hollywood.

The 2011 Miss USA Pageant will be broadcast live on Jun. 19.

Miss North Dakota

Last year's Miss North Dakota, Taylor Kearns. We regained our use of language a few hours later.

In 2010, Miss Michigan Rima Fakih (pictured below) made history when she was crowned Miss USA.

She became the first immigrant, first Arab American and first Muslim to wear the Miss USA crown. Since winning, Rima Fakih has been traveling the world as an advocate for breast and ovarian cancer awareness.

Get ready for some world-class smiles! The Miss USA Pageant will feature contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Contestants will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview.

Visit the official Miss USA site for more information.

Of course, you’ll want to review this blog’s extensive Miss USA coverage from last year featuring the aforementioned poolside event that was, quite possibly, the best day of our lives.

One of the Most Thrilling Sights in Las Vegas

Granted, there are thrilling sights galore in Las Vegas, but one of them truly gets the heart racing. Here it is!

Carnival World Buffet

Heart, consider yourself raced.

That’s right! It’s the sign marking the entrance to what is considered by, oh, everyone, the greatest buffet in the history of buffets throughout the whole of the known universe: Rio’s Carnival World Buffet.

This wildly popular buffet is featured in a great Las Vegas Weekly cover story, including a behind-the-scenes look at the well-oiled machine that keeps the deliciousness coming. Read the story.

Rio buffet crab legs

The Rio buffet serves up 1,200 pounds of crab legs each day.

The article notes the Carnival World Buffet is a whopping 100 yards long. If this blog knew sports, that would probably make for a wonderful analogy of some sort.

More interesting facts from the Las Vegas Weekly article we’re pretty sure this blog is free to “borrow” due to a little thing called “fair use”?

The menu at the Carnival World Buffet is revamped every three months. That means, if you haven’t visited lately, your thighs aren’t completely fulfilling their destinies. Or something.

Rio buffet

Let's just say, we now only talk about this lovely pizza in the past tense.

Also of interest: Not all of the gelato you see is meant to be eaten! We actually wondered about that during our last visit. Come to find out, the decorative parts of the buffet’s expansive gelato display are fashioned from lard and shortening. See below.

Rio buffet lard

The prettiest lard you may ever seen in your life.

Thanks to Las Vegas Weekly for the great article. Read more.

Oh, and make sure to check out the recipe for Boston Clam Chowder. Just divide the ingredient quantities by 1,440 and you’re good to go.

It should be noted that the Rio’s Carnival World Buffet is one of the seven Vegas buffets included in the all-day, all-access “Buffet of Buffets” pass, perhaps the greatest invention since gummy handcuffs. Get details about the Buffet of Buffets.

Two Alluring New Offerings at Planet Hollywood

Two new venues will be opening this spring at Planet Hollywood on the Las Vegas Strip, the Gallery Nightclub and the Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon.

You heard it here first! Unless, of course, you heard it somewhere else first. In which case, we’re not really in the mood to talk to you right now.

Gallery Nightclub

We're pretty sure that's faux snakeskin. Vegas cares about stuff like that.

The news release says, “Provocative design and sexy revelry will converge to create a uniquely aesthetic nightlife experience at Gallery Nightclub and the adjacent Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon.”

First, we’re going to name our next band “Sexy Revelry.” Second, this blog loves new stuff!

Planet Hollywood

Insert gratuitous photo of Planet Hollywood here.

Let’s go back to the news release, shall we? About the Gallery Nightclub, the release says, “Oversized frames will adorn the walls, showcasing original photography depicting voyeuristic imagery, creating a playfully sexy backdrop for guests.” Now we’re talking. More details, please.

“In the decadent Red Room, subjects in 3D photographs follow guests’ every move, and in the Gold Room, a beautiful femme performs a strip tease inside an over-sized champagne glass.” Our only qualm with that? There is no such thing as an over-sized champagne glass. (It’s Las Vegas!)

Skipping over the parts of the release that talk about things unrelated to “dangling,” we get to this tidbit, “Gorgeous go-go dancers, styled in voyeuristic fashions, will perform nightly, while stunning acrobats will perform from netted platforms, dangling from the nightclub’s ceiling. Candlelit glass fireplaces will be scattered throughout the venue, creating a sexy, sensual and mysterious glow in all the rooms.”

We’re kind of liking the vibe of this joint.

Pussycat Dolls

Insert gratuitous photo of various Pussycat Dolls here.

Now, on to the Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon. Note: Cutting and pasting news release bits is so much easier than actual blog writing, isn’t it?

“The Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon will bring the talent and sex appeal of the iconic Pussycat Dolls into an interactive setting for an unforgettable nightlife experience. Burlesque fantasies will come to life within the 4,500-square-foot venue, with gorgeous, lingerie-wearing bartenders pouring shots and climbing on the bar for impromptu performances throughout the night.”

And you wonder why this blog has such a crush on Vegas?

Matt Goss

Pussycat Dolls trivia: The creator of the Pussycat Dolls, Robin Antin, also produces the Matt Goss show at Caesars Palace.

Please, continue, best news release ever.

“All ladies will be welcomed to showcase their inner Pussycat Doll and flaunt what they’ve got on the Burlesque Saloon’s raised platforms and rhinestone-studded carousel horses. The Pussycat Dolls will be sure to fill the room with eye candy. Scantily-clad Dolls will strut their stuff on rhinestone letters spelling out D-O-L-L-S behind the bar.”

It appears we may have to check out these new offerings, in a purely professional blogging context, of course.

The news release offers up a Web site for Gallery Nightclub, and a suggestion to follow them on Twitter, but there’s not much there at the moment.

The same goes for Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon on Twitter and the Interwebs. Not much “there there” yet. But who cares? Did we mention there are Pussycat Dolls involved. Hello!

More news to come!
