O’Sheas Rocks Blarney Out of St. Paddy’s Day

The St. Patrick’s Day festivities continue at O’Sheas! (What, you thought St. Patrick’s Day was just a one-day thing? Please, it’s Vegas!)

We’ve got exclusive photos from the kick-off of the four-day block party, featuring Holly Madison (star of “Peepshow” at Planet Hollywood) in an epic beer pong match with Lucky, the O’Sheas leprechaun.

Lucky Holly Madison

Lucky and Holly Madison take up arms. Well, and ping-pong balls.

Revel in the photo goodness, and join the party if you can! We understand flights arrive daily. And these “car” things come in pretty handy, too.

Follow O’Sheas on Twitter for all the latest updates from the party between O’Sheas and Flamingo Las Vegas on the famed Vegas Strip. If you were following, you’d have heard that Kid Rock dropped in on the block party (Mar. 17). How cool is that?

Jace of Chippendales

Jace, wooing womankind, one button at a time.

After this appearance, you may need a squeegee for your TV screen. (We fully admit we have no idea what that means.)

Follow Chippendales on Facebook and Twitter. More steamy Jace photo action.

Meet Hoop Greats, Get a Chance at Cash

In honor of the college hoops mayhem sweeping through Las Vegas (and the country, come to think of it), NBA legends James Worthy and Clyde Drexler will be signing autographs, schmoozing fans and giving away some cash on the Strip this weekend.

Several lucky Total Rewards (the Harrah’s Entertainment player loyalty program) and Planet Hollywood A-List guests (the loyalty program of Planet Hollywood, until Apr. 1, when Planet Hollywood will become a Total Rewards destination), will be chosen to compete at a Flamingo’s Tailgate party for a share of $5,000 in cash.

Guests who sign up for a Total Rewards Card or A-List Card through March 20, 2010 will receive one entry into the “Hoops with the Stars” drawing. In addition, existing Total Rewards members who earn 50 Base Reward Credits in one day will receive an additional drawing ticket. All drawing tickets can be picked up from Total Rewards prior to 3:00 p.m. on Mar. 20.

Autograph sessions are open to the public, and scheduled (Mar. 20) with James Worthy and Clyde Drexler at Planet Hollywood (The Mezz Level), 1-2:00 p.m.; and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Flamingo (Showroom entrance).

Also on Saturday, the “Hoops With the Stars” event happens at 3-4:00 p.m. in the street between Flamingo and O’Sheas, then the drawing takes place 4-5:00 p.m., including games with Worthy and Drexler.

Get into the game! It’s your chance to play “Hoops With the Stars” and maybe even take home some moolah.

Holly Madison Kicks Off St. Paddy’s Blow-Out

Irish eyes were smiling (as were everyone else’s) as “Peepshow” (at Planet Hollywood) star Holly Madison kicked-off a four-day St. Patrick’s Day block party at O’Sheas. She narrowly defeated Lucky, the O’Sheas leprechaun, in a grueling match of beer pong.

Holly Madison

A big part of success in beer pong is distracting one's opponent.

The action was fast and furious, but in the end, Holly Madison emerged victorious.

Holly Madison

It's "Nothing but cup!" for Holly Madison at O'Sheas.

Lucky and Holly greeted fans, most already in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit.

O'Sheas

Holly and Lucky mingle with their fans. Who will probably not recall it happened. We're just saying.

The street between O’Sheas and Flamingo is party central for St. Patrick’s Day in Las Vegas.

St. Paddy's

A sea of green outside O'Sheas and Margaritaville.

So, here’s a little quiz: Where do actual Irish people go to celebrate their nation’s biggest day? You guessed it…

St. Paddy's Day

Trevor, Tracy and Ian are from Dublin, Ireland. Oh, snap! Take that, Ireland!

You won’t want to miss the sights and sounds of all the excitement at O’Sheas! Events and live entertainment are scheduled throughout the next few days. See the schedule

St. Paddy's Day

Make sure to wear your St. Paddy's Day bling!

Don’t miss out on the green beer and green popcorn and green cotton candy. There’s a lot of green.

St. Paddy's Day

Springtime temps call for frosty (green) drinks at O'Sheas.

More photos to come, of course! (Note: They may be blurry. We’re just saying. It’s St. Patrick’s Day in Vegas!)

Few Saints in Vegas for St. Patty’s Day

How are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? For our money, there’s no luckier place to play and revel and debauch than O’Sheas at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip.

Follow O’Sheas on Twitter, or fan them on Facebook, for all the latest news, including updates from the four-day block party hosted by O’Sheas (the party happens between O’Sheas and Flamingo).

Get some details about the party here.

beer

While not required, a love of beer tends to help in one's enjoyment of this hallowed day.

Another must-sip spot for St. Paddy’s Day is McFadden’s at Rio Las Vegas. At McFadden’s, it’s technically St. Patrick’s Day all-year-round, but it’s especially festive when the actual St. Paddy’s Day rolls around. Get an update on all the shenanigans.

And if you’re in one of our city’s spectacular casinos today, may the luck of the Irish be with you. Or with “ye,” if ye be into that kind of thing.

Oh, Shizzle! Flamingo for $25 for 25 Days

You know it’s serious if there’s an “izzle” involved.

Flamingo just announced rooms for just $25, for 25 selected days, Mar. 28 through May 6. We don’t know all the details, because who has time for this “reading” thing, but you might want to check it out. “Think pink,” and book before it’s too late.

Flamingo

This photo has nothing to do with this "25 days/25 dollars" offer, but we thought it looked cool. Oh, and it's at the Flamingo. So, it's related. Kind of.

A Vegas Brain Freeze of Epic Proportions

Even if nobody’s actually died from the phenomenon known as “brain freeze,” there are moments when it sure feels like you might.

When it comes to providing epic brain freezes, Vegas is the undisputed king! From margaritas to daiquiris and myriad exotic frozen concoctions served up in Sin City’s world-class bars and lounges, Las Vegas keeps the brain freezes coming fast and furious.

daiquiri

Daiquiris. The source of so much pleasure (and the occasional pain).

We experienced a near-death brain freeze incident just the other night at Evening Call, a new specialty drink store inside Bally’s Las Vegas. This new shop (open a mere five hours when we wandered in) serves up mouth-watering beverages with names like Wake Up Call, Vegas Crush, Jager Bomb, Call Girlz, Coco Loco and Straw Bama.

Evening Call

Bottoms up!

Owner Tommy and Brain Freeze Facilitation Specialist (not her real title) Sophia were on hand to comfort those suffering from brain freeze symptoms brought on by the ice-cold, flavorful refreshments at Evening Call. And to point and laugh. But mostly to comfort.

Evening Call

Some jobs are just more fun than others.

Once we recovered from our unprecedented level of bliss/agony, we felt compelled to explore further the whole brain freeze realm.

First, the medical name for “brain freeze” is “sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia.” Say that five times fast!

What causes brain freeze? When something cold touches the roof of the mouth (palate), a nerve response causes a sudden dilation and swelling of blood vessels, sending pain signals to the brain via the trigeminal nerve, resulting in severe pain in the forehead. And no, we did not just copy and paste that from medical textbook.

So, how does one avoid brain freeze? (Other than by not drinking cold drinks, of course. But let’s be realistic. It’s Vegas!) A common bit of advice says to drink slowly, and you may even want to pause between sips to let your mouth warm up.

Another tip: When you drink a cold drink, do it so it doesn’t touch the roof of your mouth.

Once a brain freeze starts, there are a few things you can attempt to make it subside. Here are four popular methods: 1) Touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth. 2) Drink something warm. 3) Press your thumb to the roof of your mouth. 4) Raise the temperature in your mouth by creating a mask over your mouth with your hand and breathing rapidly. Find out more.

Evening Call

So many ways to bring on the brain freeze, and so few ways to avoid them.

Bonus factoid: About 30% of humans suffer from brain freeze.

Extra bonus factoid: Giving yourself a brain freeze can actually help alleviate a headache.

Read about brain freeze in the British Medical Journal.

Oh, and on a related note. Can you admit you have a little Vegas Crush? We do!

Matt Goss Swings Into New Digs at Caesars

Singer Matt Goss kicked off his new gig in style on Mar. 12 at Caesars Palace. Goss and friends hit the red carpet before his much-anticipated first show at The Gossy Room at Cleopatra’s Barge.

Matt Goss

Matt Goss works the red carpet.

Celebrity guests at the show included recording artists Mel B, Natasha Bedingfield and Leona Lewis. Reality star Laura Croft was on-hand to support Matt Goss, too.

Rita Rudner

Harrah's headliner Rita Rudner was cracking them up on the red carpet.

Aside from comedian Rita Rudner (pictured above), Las Vegas favorite and Divas Las Vegas star Frank Marino (Imperial Palace) made an appearance.

A bit of Matt Goss trivia for the ages: His very first song on the stage at Caesars Palace was Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.”

Evil

The "Evil" martini (similar to a strawberry martini, but cooler) was on just about every tabletop at the debut event.

The guest list continued with Mrs. Nevada 2009 (April Schwartz) and Mrs. Las Vegas 2010 (Steph Mackenzie), below.

Mrs. Nevada Mrs. Las Vegas

We spotted this duo with our keen photojournalistic eye in the casino at Caesars Palace.

While the red carpet was certainly glitzy, nothing could compare to the electricity onstage when Matt Goss and his band, as well as his phalanx of scantily-clad dancers, took to the stage, surpassing all expectations for this buzz-worthy new show on the Strip.
