Kiss-Themed Mini Golf Opens Just Off the Vegas Strip

Rock groups don’t get much more iconic than Kiss, and now Vegas has a Kiss-themed attraction to call its own. The quirky new Kiss mini golf experience, officially called “Kiss by Monster Mini Golf,” opened March 15, 2012 just off the Vegas Strip.

Kiss Mini Golf

Today's sentence you didn't expect to see in a corporate blog: Yes, the balls glow, too.

Kiss co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were on-hand for the grand opening of this family-friendly attraction (they walked a black carpet, rather than red) which features an offbeat, glow-in-the-dark miniature golf course, an arcade, a wedding chapel and, since it’s Kiss, what’s said to be the largest Kiss gift shop in the world.

Kiss Mini Golf

Kiss gives the smackdown to every other band when it comes to merchandising.

The “Monster” in “Kiss by Monster Mini Golf” is Monster Mini Golf, the company that built and operates the impressive 18-hole golf course. The company owns 30 miniature golf courses across the country, and this is the first with a Kiss theme.

Ironically, Kiss is currently recording their 2012 album, “Monster.”

Kiss Mini Golf guitar

Several giant guitars are quite detailed, including this one having a bridge pickup, middle pickup and neck pickup. Thanks, Interwebs, for making us sound smarter than we really are.

Here’s some coverage of the grand opening event.

The Kiss mini golf attraction was packed on the day we visited, with guests of all ages exploring the expansive, zig-zagging course. Each hole features a colorful, whimsical, over-sized homage to one of the most distinctive and influential bands in history.

Kiss Mini Golf

The Kiss take on Vegas Vic.

The culmination of the mini golf course? Sending your golf ball up the tongue of Gene Simmons, of course. Yes, we said it’s family-friendly. Kiss by Monster Mini Golf handles the more mature aspects of the Kiss brand deftly.

Kiss Mini Golf Gene Simmons

This is not awkward at all.

It’s a Kiss fan’s paradise! Where else in Vegas can you let the kids play mini golf while you and the spouse renew your vows at the “Hotter Than Hell” wedding chapel? Only in Vegas, baby!

Kiss Mini Golf Hotter Than Hell Wedding Chapel

Nothing says "marital stability" like being in a famous rock band.

Kiss by Monster Mini Golf is located at 4503 Paradise Road, across from the Hard Rock.

Find out more at the official site.

Kiss Mini Golf Las Vegas

You probably won't miss it. It has a giant orange golf ball as a door.

You will, of course, want to feast your eyes on more Kiss Mini Golf goodness, courtesy of our hard-rocking, entirely free photo gallery below. Don’t say this blog never gave you anything.

Today’s Las Vegas Wedding Shocker

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, Vegas is gearing up for romance, passion and wildly foolish life decisions made as a result of consuming copious amounts of alcohol. But mostly those first two things, romance and passion!

We asked our friends at the Paris Las Vegas wedding chapel to try and shock us with a Valentine’s Day tidbit, and they rose to the occasion. (See what we did there? Rose! It’s a flower. Used in just about every wedding bouquet on Valentine’s Day. Moving on.)

Here’s something we never would have suspected: The majority of Valentine’s Day weddings at Paris Las Vegas are booked by men. Consider this blog relatively shocked.

Paris Las Vegas wedding topper

The Paris Las Vegas cake topper was originally created for an ad. It was so popular, they decided to sell them.

Get your sassy Paris Vegas cake topper here. It costs $69 and change. We hope you appreciate the restraint and maturity this blog is exhibiting right about now.

Here’s another gem from the Paris wedding folks: About 15% of those who get married at Paris Las Vegas on Valentine’s Day got engaged in Paris, France or they’re traveling to Paris for their honeymoon.

Today’s Thing That Might Surprise You About the IP

The Imperial Palace recently unveiled two new wedding chapels, offering lovebirds new ways to tie the knot on the Las Vegas Strip.

The chapels are the Skyline Chapel and the Sierra Chapel, with the former accommodating about 80 people, and the Sierra Chapel playing host to smaller weddings (up to 20 people).

Here’s the surprise part. Check out the Skyline Chapel.

Silver Sky Chapel

A pretty sweet spot for some Vegas nuptials.

We know, right?

Wedding packages at the new chapels run from “Vegas Style” for $169 to “Las Vegas Nights” for $3,635.

There are a slew of package inclusions, as you might suspect, with add-ons like impersonators who can perform the ceremony (add $350) and flip-flops for the bride and groom (not kidding, for $75).

Here’s the Sierra Chapel.

Sierra Chapel

Less surprising, but still nice.

Most of the wedding packages offered include a personal wedding coordinator, music played by a professional pianist, bouquets, photos and other goodies. The “Glitter and Lights” package even includes a post-wedding day couple’s massage. Now, we’re getting somewhere.

Bonus wedding fact: In Roman times, people examined pig entrails to determine the luckiest time to marry. Hey, we don’t make up the bonus facts, we just report them.

Get all the entrail-free wedding package details on the official site of Imperial Palace.

Pro Takes On Wacky Las Vegas Wedding Myths

Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the world, and while 1.2 bajillion (roughly) couples have tied the knot in Vegas, some interesting myths persist about this time-honored Sin City ritual.

We hooked up (not like that) with a professional wedding coordinator at Flamingo Las Vegas, Kristen Rochelle, to see if she could dispel some of these all-too-popular misconceptions.

POV Blog: What’s a myth about Vegas weddings that never ceases to surprise you?

Kristen: One I hear from time to time is that ceremonies in Las Vegas have to be performed by an Elvis impersonator. While that’s an option at many chapels, Nevada has a lot of licensed ministers, many of whom look nothing like Elvis. Couples meet with their minister before the ceremony and talk with him or her about exactly what they want. These folks are consummate professionals.

Kristen

Kristen relaxes near a waterfall we forced her to sit in front of at the Flamingo chapel.

POV Blog: There’s sometimes a perception that Vegas weddings are quick and cheesy. Sorry, that’s not really a question. We are a blog, not a professional interviewer.

Kristen: Vegas ceremonies might be quick, but they’re far from cheesy! Most Las Vegas chapels are elegant and beautifully-decorated in classic wedding decor. Our clients also have the option of putting their personal touch on their ceremony with fresh flower arrangements. Not to mention the fabulous outdoor garden venues. These venues are very popular.

Flamingo wedding chapel

This blog could totally be a wedding photographer, except for all the "talent" and "effort" required. Other than that, we could rock it.

POV Blog: We’ve heard people are sometimes apprehensive about Vegas weddings because they think all Vegas weddings are Vegas-themed. Actually, we heard that in the e-mail you sent us. But you know what we mean.

Kristen: Just because you want a fun, affordable, easy wedding experience doesn’t mean you have to have dice and playing cards in the decor. This is your wedding day and we want it to be the way you want it. It can be classic or contemporary. We do our best to make sure your wedding will be everything you dreamed of.

POV Blog: Any other myths spring to mind?

Kristen: Another great one is that every Las Vegas wedding is performed at a drive-through chapel. In reality, each ceremony is special and customized to individual styles and tastes. Of course, Las Vegas has something for everyone, including drive-through ceremonies. But you can be married in classic indoor chapels or outside in front of fountains or waterfalls, too.

Flamingo weddings

One of the sweet photo ops for couples at Flamingo, featuring a few of the aforementioned waterfalls.

Note: We are fairly sure we’re going to use that photo as our computer’s new desktop wallpaper.

POV Blog: So, far, we’re not sure these myths have not been all that “wacky.” We’re too lazy to change the title of this blog post, so can you give us a wacky one?

Kristen: How about this? Many people think that if they’re married in Las Vegas, they aren’t legally married in their home state. It’s not true, of course. Weddings are performed by licensed ministers, and witnessed and legally recorded. We know what we’re doing. It’s Las Vegas, after all! Learn more.

Thanks to Kristen for sharing her wedding expertise, especially since this blog knows as much about weddings as it knows about paying its income taxes. Hypothetically.

Find out more about the Flamingo Wedding Chapel at the Flamingo’s official site.

And if you’re bored, read about the time dozens of people got married to sandwiches at a Las Vegas wedding chapel. Hey, we don’t make up the news. Much.

Cassie and Greg: Two of the Coolest People We Know

How cool are Vegas fans Cassie and Greg? Here’s how cool. They invited this Las Vegas blog to their upcoming wedding at Flamingo Las Vegas!

Cassie and Greg

Cassie and Greg show the rest of us how to rock some sunglasses.

Hell, yes, we’ll be there. And not just because weddings often involve liquor and bridesmaids.

Aside from the ceremony at the Flamingo Wedding Chapel, Cassie and Greg have a full Sin City schedule planned, including a post-nuptials dinner at the Paradise Garden Buffet (a hugely popular spot for Vegas wedding dinners) and dancing (etcetera) at Bally’s.

Thanks for the invitation, you guys!

Today’s Las Vegas Wedding Mojo Factoid

Oct. 10, 2010 was a big day for Las Vegas wedding chapels. People looking for some numerological mojo couldn’t resist tying the knot since 10/10/10 is said to be exceptionally lucky. (No laughing! Like you don’t have superstitions you follow, especially in Vegas casinos.)

How big was 10/10/10? The chapel at Flamingo Las Vegas hosted 78 wedding ceremonies. In. One. Day.

Flamingo Vegas wedding chapel

"Run, run while you still can!" Which, as you might suspect, is not an approved slogan of the Flamingo Wedding Chapel.

Ten Couples Get Engaged at Caesars for 10/10/10

In honor of 10/10/10 (Oct. 10, 2010), at Caesars Palace, 10 men simultaneously dropped to one knee to propose, at 10:10 a.m.

101010

When you hear the words "sanctity of marriage," doesn't Las Vegas always spring to mind? Ahem.

Flamingo entertainer Donny Osmond hosted the event at the Trevi Fountain replica outside The Forum Shops.

To participate in the event, couples submitted essays about how they met and why they felt they should be selected for the 10/10/10 event.

The winning stories included a romance rekindled after 40 years, high school sweethearts facing financial hardship and a veteran who found his true love after returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Bonus Osmond factoid: Donny Osmond has been married 30 years to his wife, Debbie.

The winning couples were surprised further when it was announced Funjet Vacations would provide the couples free airfare, and a seven-night, all-inclusive stay at an Iberostar Grand Resort, including a complimentary wedding ceremony.

Just another day in Vegas!

Today’s Las Vegas Wedding Chapel Weirdness

As cheesy publicity stunts go, this one ended up being pretty charming. The folks at a storied Sin City institution, A Little White Wedding Chapel, and a local sandwich shop, Capriotti’s, hosted an event where people were wed to, wait for it, sandwiches.

Little White Wedding Chapel

We do love us some Vegas kitsch.

Note: Don’t look at that photo too long, or you may need a sedative.

Yep, guests were invited to dress in outlandish costumes (on Jul. 21) and were treated to free, official-looking marriage certificates and photos with their new spouses, “Bobbie” sandwiches. Yes, we said the name of the sandwich, knowing full well we’re playing right into their hands by talking about this stunt. Sigh.

wedding

Do we love Captain Morgan? Yes. Do we love Captain Morgan in flip-flops? Somewhat less.

It was hard not to get into the spirit of the event, mostly because everyone in attendance seemed to be having so much mayo-fueled fun.

It’s estimated more than 200 people took part in the event, with longtime officiant and taskmaster Charlotte Richards overseeing the nuptials.

Happy Hoofers

These fun-loving ladies are members of a local dance group, the Happy Hoofers. Cute, or what?

Of course, the chapel’s resident Elvis impersonator Frankie Castro got into the act. You think being an Elvis impersonator is an easy gig? It was about 110 degrees out, and Frankie mentioned, “This suit weighs about 20 pounds.” No kidding, and much of it is metal!

Frankie Castro

Elvis and sandwiches just, you know, seem to get along.

Among the Little White Wedding Chapel’s distinctions is its famed drive-through window. Open 24-hours-a-day, of course. And, naturally, we got a pic!

Drive Through Wedding

The drive-through window at A Little White Wedding Chapel proves there's a wedding for every taste and budget in Vegas.

We hear guests deemed to have the wackiest costume will get a year’s supply of Bobbie subs. We have no idea who won. We are a Las Vegas blog, not a puppet of the Bobbie sandwich publicity machine. Much.

Vegas weddings

Ladies, please, take this a little less seriously. You're marrying sandwiches.

A mass wedding to sandwiches? Of course! It’s another “only in Vegas” moment. And, yeah, that’s probably for the best.

Vegas Little White Chapel

According to this sign, at some point, Joan Collins and Michael Jordan were married at this chapel. We wonder if they actually know that.

In case you’re in the mood for a Las Vegas wedding with a little less, oh, sandwich and Elvis, take a look at these lunchmeat-free alternatives.

Update: Here are the winners and runners-up. Come on, Capriotti’s. You can’t say you’re having a contest then say, “We can’t choose just one winner.” Cop out!

Q&A With a Las Vegas Wedding Expert

Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the world, boasting a whopping 115,000 weddings a year!

Kris LaBuda is the manager of the famed wedding chapel at Flamingo Las Vegas, an iconic part of the Las Vegas experience since 1995. Kris has assisted brides and grooms with their most important day for 16 years, 13 of which have been at the Flamingo.

She’s seen and heard it all, and has generously volunteered to share some of her Vegas wedding insights and stories on the Pulse of Vegas blog.

wedding expert

Kris has seen it all at the Flamingo wedding chapel. Now, she gets to endure our annoying questions!

Pulse of Vegas Blog: What would surprise people about Las Vegas weddings?

Kris: One thing that may surprise your readers about Las Vegas weddings is they really do last. I have met couple after couple walking through our doors who are celebrating their 38th, 40th, 63rd, ad infinitum, wedding anniversary. Las Vegas may have a reputation as “Sin City,” but something about it makes marriages stick.

Pulse of Vegas Blog: Do you do quirky weddings at Flamingo? Elvis? Aliens? Other themes?

Kris: We’ve tried offering quirky weddings, but our Flamingo couples haven’t been super attracted to those packages. We did have a “White Wedding Package” recently, which, among other things, included a Billy Idol impersonator to perform the song “White Wedding” during the ceremony. Whatever the wedding, we can make it special.

Pulse of Vegas Blog: How do Las Vegas weddings differ from what some may think of Las Vegas weddings?

Kris: Does “cheesy” come to mind when you think of Las Vegas weddings? Cheesy’s an image that’s helped Vegas become the wedding capital of the world, but it’s also a misnomer since Vegas offers so many options for wedding venues. Caesars Palace, for instance. Caesars Palace can hardly be called cheesy. At the Flamingo, we work really hard to dispel any associations with unwanted cheese (though we do have pink feather boas on hand, just in case).

flamingo wedding

We crashed Rachel and Bryan's recent wedding at Flamingo for this photo. Court date pending.

Pulse of Vegas Blog: What’s your policy if someone comes in and wants to get married on the spot?

Kris: We only have a few truly “on the spot” ceremonies every year. Couples that arrive with their marriage licenses in-hand are so cute, though. They’re all cuddly and sheepishly ask if we can squeeze them in. Usually, they’ve seen something about us before they walk through our doors. Performing a legal marriage in Las Vegas requires obtaining a marriage certificate and license from the Clark County Courthouse prior to the ceremony so couples do have to do a little planning prior to arriving. (Find out more.)

Pulse of Vegas Blog: Has an actual Flamingo Las Vegas flamingo ever disrupted a ceremony?

Kris: Yes, we really have had ceremonies disrupted by flamingos. Our Paradise Falls location is right next to Flamingo Island, where the flamingos live. Every day, the flamingos and wild waterfowl, including Sacred Ibis, pheasants, ringed teal and wood ducks, are fed by their keepers, Jackie and Robin. Because they get so many questions about the birds, they started a program called “keeper talk” in which they wear microphones and help our guests understand a little bit more about these interesting birds. When we first started performing ceremonies nearby, we were interrupted by the amplified sounds of the birds and laughter from the audience. Now, though, the wildlife center is included on our wedding schedule. Each of us takes care not to schedule weddings around the flamingo feeding times.

Flamingo weddings

This Sacred Ibis is clearly a flamingo wannabe.

Pulse of Vegas Blog: Any other stories about Flamingo weddings you’d care to share?

Kris: Strange coincidences happen here, too. When I first became a wedding planner, we would run indoor ceremonies at the same time we had outdoor ceremonies planned. I was taking our gazebo bride out to the staging area for a 5:00 ceremony and another planner was taking the other 5:00 bride to her staging area. The two girls looked at each other, astonished, “Kristy?” the indoor bride said, “Is that you?” Sure enough, the two girls were long-lost sorority sisters. Imagine, they booked the same hotel on the same day and time.

If you have questions about Las Vegas weddings, feel free to post them in our Comments section, and we’ll pass them along and share the answers in future posts from our Vegas wedding expert. Learn more about weddings at Las Vegas’ Flamingo hotel.

Only in Vegas: Run-Through Weddings at Paris

During the recent Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon (Dec. 6), 85 couples were married (or renewed their vows) at the base of the iconic Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas.

An outdoor wedding “chapel” was built just for the occasion, at roughly 3.5 miles into the 26-mile marathon course, fully equipped with heating lamps, hot chocolate and coffee to warm the brides and grooms (many dressed in Elvis garb) on an uncommonly brisk Vegas day.

Thanks to our friends at Paris for sending over some photos from the event.

Thanks to our friends at Paris for sending over some photos from the event.

Three minutes later, the ceremony, performed by Reverend Jamie Firzlaff (who also took part in the marathon), was complete.

A little insider scoop? One couple came all the way from France to renew their vows in honor of their 40th wedding anniversary. Sure, they live in France, but they got married at our Paris. We’re just saying.

More scoop? One couple at the gathering was originally married at the run-through wedding five years ago. They’ve renewed their vows every year since. (These folks are currently expecting, by the way. That kid may very well be born wearning jogging shoes.)

Nothing's sexier than Paris. And Elvi. But mostly Paris.

Nothing's sexier than Paris. And Elvi. But mostly Paris.

This year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon included entrants from 39 countries competing for $107,000 in prize money. More than 27,600 runners, joggers, walkers and dawdlers took part.

Two runners from Kenya took home the top prizes. Christopher Toroitich and Caroline Rotich won in their respective categories.

Stay at Paris Las Vegas, said to be the most romantic destination on the Strip. And, for the record, they do weddings inside, too. Learn more.

Up for a Vegas Wedding at Flamingo?

You just never know who you’re going to encounter as you’re roaming around our Pulse of Vegas resorts. And we do roam.

The other night, we stopped by the Flamingo’s Paradise Garden Buffet. Lots of smiling faces, of course. It’s a Las Vegas buffet, after all! We soon noticed a long table, with two people at one end who were clearly wearing attire suited to nuptials.

Lysle and Jennifer could charm the hair off a peach.

Lysle and Jennifer could charm the hair off a peach.

Lysle and Jennifer had been married that very afternoon at the Flamingo, and were treating their friends and family to a wedding reception at the Flamingo buffet! Now, that’s a great value. Everybody gets food they love, and it doesn’t break the bank. Only in Vegas!

Naturally, we crashed the wedding reception and helped ourselves to some treats at the dessert station.

All we can eat? They have no idea how much we can eat.

All we can eat? They have no idea how much we can eat.

The dessert station only upstaged the bride and groom for a moment or two, promise.

Yes, there are other food stations. We think.

Yes, there were other food stations. We think.

Lysle and Jennifer further got on our good side when they informed us they had absolutely loved their wedding at the Flamingo, complete with a wedding coordinator (included in their wedding package). Oh, and they were staying at Harrah’s Las Vegas of all places. We’re pretty sure they weren’t just trying to kiss up.

The beaming newlyweds were from Wyoming, as were many of their 20-25 guests.

Learn more about weddings at Flamingo Las Vegas. And, it should be said, making small group gatherings (like weddings or bachelor/bachelorette parties) unforgettable is one of our specialties. Like the Flamingo’s succulent berry creamy pie thing. A specialty, that is.

Find out more about Total Experiences, a new, free service that’s like having your very own concierge.

The one and only Flamingo. As Vegas as Vegas gets.
