Have You Ever Doubled Down on Blackjack?

This blog’s curious. Have you ever gotten a natural blackjack against, say, a dealer’s 6 and doubled down?

Oh, you heard us. You have a guaranteed winner, but you’re in Vegas, and everyone at the table’s cool with it, so you double down to try and get double your money (rather than 3-to-2, or 6-to-5, or whatever).

We’ve done it, and even if you’re betting at a $5 table, doubling down on blackjack can get the adrenaline going.

Blackjack

This blog could totally make a living selling stock photos of playing cards. Assuming they had really low standards.

Are we recommending you do this? Um, no. The key to winning at blackjack is knowing “basic strategy.” That means given certain card combinations, you take actions that help minimize the house edge. (The house always has the edge, but some games, and bets, are better than others.)

Doubling down on a blackjack might not be our smartest move ever, but we sure had a blast. Did we make a “sucker bet”? You tell us, in the comments section.

Did it at the Sahara dollar table. They paid even $ on BJ. That made it an ez decision.

I can’t bring myself to double down on a soft 20, much less a Blackjack. I’m already guaranteed bonus money, why would I risk that bonus money by going double-or-nothing? The dealer is most likely to bust on the 6, but even then it’s less than half the time. You’re going to hold your 21 about a third of the time.

But if I’m holding soft 19, you bet your sweet bippy that I’m doubling down against a dealer 6.

Ask this question … “are you a complete idiot?”

    Hey, it’s our money!

We actually bet our sweet bippy once, and thank the heavens we prevailed. We’re not sure what we’d do without ours.

6-5 is pretty close to that. We like to wing it sometimes.

Agreed, Paul. Sometimes, you have to go off the little colored chart thingy.
