Rio Las Vegas is Going to the Dogs for Wild Fest
This blog loves it some pups, so we were thrilled to hear Rio Las Vegas will host this year’s Wild Fest event, Oct. 25-28, 2012, including the DockDogs Iron Dog championships.
Get ready for some doggy-paddling, tail-wagging, and occasionally even flying, dogs!

Insert gratuitous photo of DockDog having a blast here.
First things first. Nevada Wild Fest is an annual festival with a carnival vibe, including 35 rides and midway attractions, celebrity meet-and-greets, free entertainment (including some bigtime country music acts), a haunted maze, gourmet food trucks, beer and wine gardens, the whole nine yards.
One of the cooler aspects of Wild Fest, beyond the flying dog thing, is that the event benefits the Lilli Claire Foundation. The Lili Claire Foundation is a private medical center dedicated to helping special needs children and adults with conditions like Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome and Autism.
So, it’s fun for the whole family, for a great cause.
Now, back to the flying dogs!

Yes, this blog took this photo. We are clearly as talented as people say we are.
DockDogs is a “canine aquatics competition,” which mainly involves dogs (the “dogs” part of DockDogs) bolting down the length of a platform (the “dock” part), jumping from the dock, flying through the air and retrieving a chew toy to thunderous applause from the crowd.
These are some seriously happy dogs. Yes, we asked.

Air, you've been schooled.
At Wild Fest, guests are welcome to bring their dogs to DockDogs competitions to be held each day.
The “Iron Dog” championships will give dog lovers a chance to watch as six top-ranked teams compete in three DockDogs disciplines: Big Air, Speed Retrieve and Extreme Vertical. The competition will be filmed for a one-hour TV special on the Outdoor Channel.
