Britney Hits the Vegas Desert for Planet Hollywood Residency Announcement
Leave it to femme fatale Britney Spears to wow a crowd–even when she’s not performing. On Tuesday, Sept. 17, all eyes focused on Spears as she landed around sunrise via helicopter in the middle of the desert to promote her new single, “Work Bitch” and to finally confirm her landmark Planet Hollywood Resort show, “Britney: Piece of Me” that begins Dec. 27.
Tickets for the first 16 show dates are on sale now for American Express cardholders, and tomorrow Total Rewards members get access to a special pre-sale, so there’s no better time to “get in the zone” and sign up. Tickets go on sale for the general public on Friday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m.
The pop star’s dramatic entrance aired online at britneypieceofme.com’s livestream and on a Good Morning America segment. The live feed included clips showing more than 1,300 fans, many dressed in the schoolgirl outfit that made Spears so famous. The crowd, plus a mob of media and camera crews, were all stationed in the Jean, Nev. desert, a half-hour ride from her Planet Hollywood home base.
After Spears landed, she was whisked into a waiting SUV and driven to the center of the action, where a red carpet was laid out for her. For Spears, it may as well have been a runway, as the pop bombshell strutted down toward a waiting camera and GMA host Sam Champion. Wearing a chic, all-black ensemble and dark sunglasses that screamed “superstar,” Spears gave a quick interview that included her first reaction to another of the morning’s big surprises: a flip card photo stunt that was done for Spears to welcome her arrival. Measuring 10 stories long and seven stories across, each side boasted an image of Spears—one a screenshot from her iconic “…Baby One More Time” music video and another of the “Britney: Piece of Me” show poster. She saw it all happen from an aerial ride in and told Champion that it left her speechless.
Also in the interview, Spears confirmed that her as-yet-untitled eighth album release date is Tuesday, Dec. 3. She shared limited show details that left room for plenty of future surprises. The clip followed a revealing, previously taped sit-down, where she discussed everything from why she loves Las Vegas to what inspired her writing on the new disc.
The kick-off and new music release launched a viral flurry online and through social media channels, as Spears confirmed a long-awaited return to what she’s best known for—putting on a show.
