Interview With a Mind Reader: Part 2
The first part of our recent interview with Luke Jermay, mind reader and star of the Mental show at O’Sheas, went over like gangbusters, so here’s part two. You can read part one here. Let’s start out by stirring up some trouble!
Pulse of Vegas Blog: What’s the most wrong you’ve ever been in doing a “reading”?
Luke Jermay: Sometimes, it just doesn’t work. I am off, or I can’t understand what the signals mean. Most of the time when this happens, we just don’t get anywhere, so I don’t really have any amazing examples of being “very wrong,” but every now and again I certainly get confused and can’t understand what it is that someone is thinking. Every time this happens, I try to talk to the person afterward and work out how they think and why I couldn’t follow their thoughts. In this way, I grow a deeper understanding.

Luke Jermay as he successfully freaks somebody out. He does that a lot.
POV: What’s a spot-on reading that even surprised you?
LJ: “You had sex with girlfriend’s mother last night. Your girlfriend is sitting on your left and her mother is sitting on your right. This might be an uncomfortable moment for all four of us.” The guy laughed and then confirmed [it was correct]. The daughter and mother were not laughing. I moved on fast.
POV: Where are you from, exactly?
LJ: I grew up just outside of London in a place called Essex. I consider myself very much a “Londoner.” The way I think and see the world was certainly formed and shaped by my time spent in London, England.
POV: You seem especially good at telling people their astrological signs. Is there a reason for that?
LJ: Honestly, when I deal with a restricted field of options (astrological signs being one of 12), it’s much easier to understand what a signal means. So, a star sign is something of a “test” for me before I move onto bigger, more difficult, things with people.

Kreskin, you've been owned!
POV: What shows in town do you like?
LJ: I am a massive fan of both Mac King and Nathan Burton. Comedy-magic is something I really enjoy and both of these shows are super fun, interesting and funny. I am also a fan of Todd Paul, a juggler-comedian at Hooters. Also, I like X Burlesque.
POV: There’s a point in your show where you could be giving an audience member $10,000. Have you ever lost that game?
LJ: Yes, twice. Once in Lisbon Portugal and once in London. Painful experiences, but also fun shows.
A special thanks to Luke Jermay for answering our annoying questions! Check out his blog here, or follow him on Twitter.
See Mental at O’Sheas. You’ll be agog. Trust us. And admit it, when was the last time you were actually agog, anyway?
