The Most Amazing, Colossal Las Vegas Movie Ever
What’s your favorite movie set in Las Vegas? Maybe “Ocean’s 11″ or “Casino”? “Con Air”? “Showgirls”? (Kidding.)
By some estimates, there have been more than 500 movies shot in and around Las Vegas, but we have a new favorite. It’s “The Amazing Colossal Man”!
This black-and-white, 1957 sci-fi flick has it all. Romance. Action. Riveting dialogue. And, of course, a dude who freakishly grows to be 60 feet tall because of an atomic accident.
The special effects are just awesome, and things get truly spectacular when the 60-foot guy goes on a rampage in Las Vegas.
He works his over-sized magic (specifically: “crushing,” “throwing”) on iconic Vegas hotels and landmarks like the Silver Slipper, the Sands, Riviera and something called “Last Frontier Village.” In one segment, the unjolly giant even takes down the unofficial mascot of Sin City, Vegas Vic.
Feast your eyes on the stunning climax to the cinematic accomplishment that is “The Amazing Colossal Man.”
Poor, misunderstood, 60-foot-tall, disoriented bald guy.
Sadly, this movie is not available on DVD, but it can be had on VHS pretty readily.
Insider tip: When you’re in Las Vegas, please try not to stand near an atomic blast. It can be a bummer.
